Stop SOPA and PIPA.

SOPA is a tool to give corporations more control over the stuff we publish on the internet.

Today we are standing with tens of thousands of activists who are blacking out their websites to protest two pieces of proposed legislation: SOPA, the so-called “Stop Online Piracy Act,” in the House and PIPA, the so-called “Protect IP Act,” in the Senate.

These bills are tools to allow the media and entertainment industries to level any website or content that threatens their bottom line. According to Colorlines.com:

“SOPA would work as the online world’s stingy gatekeeper, giving government the power to shutdown websites altogether.[...] If you create or consume content on the Internet, under SOPA the government would have the power to pull the plug on your website. If you’re a casual consumer, your favorite websites could be penalized and shut down if they seem to be illegally supporting copyrighted material.”

Unfortunately it goes further than this. If found in violation of the law, casual uploaders could find themselves in prison. This video shows the dangers of SOPA and PIPA.

PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo.

The Forum Project opposes the passage of SOPA and PIPA, and stands with the tens of thousands of websites that are going dark today. Please take a moment to take action. Sign the petition and tell your congress person to oppose SOPA today at americancensorship.org.

Rainbow of Desire Workshop: Last Chance to Register!

Rainbow of Desire

Partiipcants explore internalized oppression through image

This Saturday, December 10 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PMwe will be offering a very rare Rainbow of Desire workshop.

I have to say Rainbow of Desire is probably my favorite branch of the Theatre of the Oppressed arsenal. Rainbow of Desire is the exploration of the ways in which societal oppressions get replicated internally, which can cause us great amounts of difficulty and pain. As usual in Theatre of the Oppressed, participants begin by exploring their own experiences, but since the stories are so deeply personal, Rainbow of Desire exploration results in beautiful aesthetic images and movement. It is a therapeutic series of techniques that also provides tools to dismantle oppression and achieve liberation!

Please register today to join us for a day of exploration and beauty.

Peace,
Leigh.
