Stop SOPA and PIPA.

SOPA is a tool to give corporations more control over the stuff we publish on the internet.

Today we are standing with tens of thousands of activists who are blacking out their websites to protest two pieces of proposed legislation: SOPA, the so-called “Stop Online Piracy Act,” in the House and PIPA, the so-called “Protect IP Act,” in the Senate.

These bills are tools to allow the media and entertainment industries to level any website or content that threatens their bottom line. According to Colorlines.com:

“SOPA would work as the online world’s stingy gatekeeper, giving government the power to shutdown websites altogether.[...] If you create or consume content on the Internet, under SOPA the government would have the power to pull the plug on your website. If you’re a casual consumer, your favorite websites could be penalized and shut down if they seem to be illegally supporting copyrighted material.”

Unfortunately it goes further than this. If found in violation of the law, casual uploaders could find themselves in prison. This video shows the dangers of SOPA and PIPA.
