Introduction to Theatre of the Oppressed Workshop
Sunday, November 20, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
New York, NY
With S. Leigh Thompson & Alexander Santiago-Jirau

$100, sliding scale and flexible payment available

In this workshop we will introduce participants to the work of Theatre of the Oppressed, prepare participants for using Theatre of the Oppressed techniques in their work and communities, and, of course, have fun in the process!

These techniques were designed to raise consciousness and create action for individual and social change. Participants will be guided through a series of games and exercises that challenge how one understands their environment and communities. Through discussion and exploration, participants will be encouraged to explore systems of oppression. Critical observation, dialogue, and community participation will also inform our learning as we explore Boal’s strategies and practical applications in our own lives, work and communities.

We seek to involve educators, community leaders and students who seek to use this training to further their pedagogical, social justice and organizing work. Participants of all experiences, identities, abilities and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

The fee for this workshop is $100, but we have a strong flexible payment policy to help make these tools available to all who need them. If you are unable to pay the full amount please let us know so we can discuss other options including payment plans, bartering and service donations. For more information on payment options, please go to our Flexible Payment Policy page.
