On Sunday, October 23 join The Forum Project at Occupy Wall Street for in-depth discussions of power, privilege and systems of oppression. We will be facilitating Theatre of the Oppressed games and activities to engage participants in critical dialogue while having lots of fun in the process!

Theatre of the Oppressed engages people in discovery, critical reflection and dialogue and the process of liberation. Through Theatre of the Oppressed we can better understand ourselves, our communities and our world. Theatre of the Oppressed activities allow participants to stretch the limits of their imaginations, demechanize habitual behaviors and deconstruct and analyze societal structures of power and oppression. Plus, game playing is fun and builds community!

If you’re in the New York City area, please come and join us and RSVP on Facebook.

The Forum Project (TFP) is a New York-based project of artist-advocates who work to offer creative methods through which individuals and communities can explore and understand the world, their community and their lives. TFP works through critical pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed techniques to offer opportunities for community dialogue. Learn more at www.theforumproject.org.

A busy couple of weeks

Come Closer at Wheelock

Leigh with Rick Piatt, fellow author, and Ellie Friedland, editor of Come Closer

Whew! It’s been an exciting couple of months at The Forum Project. We’ve been busy working on a few partnerships and custom workshops with several organizations and schools. Lately we’ve been visiting several different colleges, including Emerson and Wheelock in Boston and Parson’s School of Design at the New School in NYC. We’re also continuing our work with several local social justice organizations. We can’t say much as the projects are hush-hush while in development, but let’s just say they keep us busy!

It’s been awhile since we’ve been able to offer an open workshop, so we’re happy to announce two one-day workshops coming up in the next few weeks: Intro to Theatre of the Oppressed on November 2o and Rainbow of Desire on December 10. We’re also excited to be accepting applications for a TFP intern to assist with our growing organization.

As we continue to grow, we appreciate your continued dedication and support. Please take a moment to share The Forum Project with a friend or colleague and be sure to follow us on Facebook!

Peace,
Leigh and Alex.
